First Vice-Minister Kang Kyung-sung of the Ministry of Trade,
Industry and Energy visited the POSCO Future M’s artificial graphite anode factory
in Pohang on the 17th as part of his first field activity since taking office
to inspect the secondary battery material supply chain. On this day, Vice-Minister
Kang attended a meeting with key resident companies in the Pohang specialized
complex, including POSCO Future M, Woojeon G&F, and PM Grow, to listen to
their investment status and challenges.
During the meeting, Vice-Minister Kang stated, “As
secondary batteries are crucial for our economy's future, being as critical as
semiconductors and directly linked to economic security and advanced
industries, it is vital to secure a robust supply chain. It is significant to
visit the country’s only artificial graphite anode production facility today,
and I anticipate POSCO Future M will play a central role in achieving our
country's independence in anode materials.”
Kim Jun-hyung, President of POSCO Future M, who attended
the meeting, expressed, "We are continuing our investment in the anode
material business, including artificial graphite anodes, to achieve supply
chain independence. However, we are facing operational difficulties due to
low-priced products from overseas, which makes the need for government support
critical."
In response, Vice-Minister Kang said, “The government will not spare support in areas such as finance, tax measures, R&D, and regulatory improvements.”
